COVID-19 Response

An Evolving Story

Our parent community and staff work together closely to maintain COVID safety measures that balance the needs of our families, keeping safety and children’s developmental needs at the forefront.

Upcoming 2022-23 School Year

We believe we will emerge from this pandemic even stronger than before. We continue to prioritize use of our ample outdoor classrooms which are nestled away from the busy city. In response to the pandemic, we launched an aftercare program, a parent connections series, and a nature-based program—all of which will outlive the pandemic. We hope to bring back our Food Program soon, and look forward to when daily snack and lunch can be planned, prepped, and provided on campus again. We require all staff and parent teachers to be up-to-date with their COVID vaccinations, and are currently requiring masks indoors.

2021 – 2022

We re-opened our in-person programs for one year olds while maintaining our in-person programs for two year olds and preschoolers primarily outdoors. To keep our preschool cohorts small, we launched Nature Days where children spend extended time in small groups immersed in nature. On campus, we began opening our indoor classrooms for focused small groups. We partnered with local non-profit and state resources to offer weekly asymptomatic testing for all of our families.

August 2020

Slippery Fish re-opened with programs available in our outdoor classrooms and an expanded virtual program for those who needed, or preferred, to stay home. We fostered parent connections through small virtual groups focused on specific interests, such as exercise accountability, D&D, home renovations, anti-bias education through children’s literature, and parent education.

March 2020

During the same week that much of the Bay Area went under varying stay-at-home measures, Slippery Fish went virtual and created ways to stay connected through weekly at-home play plans with online circle times, cooking classes, building times, arts and crafts classes, a YouTube channel of stories and songs by teachers, and home-delivered activity kits. At the same time, our parent community and staff went into planning mode for the coming school year.
