Curriculum

We recognize and respect the vital role of play in child development. Across all programs at Slippery Fish, we retain a play-based approach, supporting the children’s play as they explore sensory experiences, build motor skills, cultivate peer relationships, and practice their problem-solving skills. We encourage children to embrace differences among people, and we support them in building a positive self-identity.

Emergent Learning

As the teachers get to know the children in their classrooms, they bring their expert observations into curriculum planning and designing dynamic activities that meet the needs of each individual child in the context of the larger group. This means that the optional activities we offer evolve as they reflect and intentionally expand upon the children’s emerging interests, abilities, and needs.

Project-Based Learning

In project-based learning, children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, seek answers through experimentation, learn from one another, and practice working collaboratively.

Anti-Bias

We believe that the classroom should be a reflection of who we are and what we can learn from one another. Each program integrates anti-bias curriculum into the children’s learning.

From a child’s perspective, our approach means lots of opportunity for meaningful play in a safe, supportive environment.
